Who We Are
Richard Cummins – Director: TSI Global Trainer
Richard has always been passionate about understanding how we learn. Together with Professor Burden of the University of Exeter he has developed an approach which is having a significant impact on the teaching of thinking in schools in the UK and abroad.
David Hyerle – Director: TSI Global Trainer
David is the developer of the Thinking Maps model and author of the primary training resources for implementing Thinking Maps. Presently, David is the President of Designs for Thinking and Founding Director of Thinking Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting research, development and advocacy for thinking as being the foundation for schools around the world.

Larry Alper – TSI Global Trainer
Larry is Co-Director of Designs for Thinking, leading implementations of Thinking Maps in whole schools while also supporting schools and school systems in developing long term plans for implementing these tools. During the last four years of an 18 year career as an elementary school principal in Brattleboro, Vermont Larry facilitated the successful implementation of Thinking Maps and Software and Write From the Beginning. He also investigated how he and his colleagues could use Thinking Maps as collaborative tools for building leadership capacity. This process led him to co-author the guide and training, Thinking Maps: A Language for Leadership with David Hyerle and the recently published research on this work, Developing Connective Leadership: Successes with Thinking Maps (Solution Tree, 2011) with Kim Williams and David Hyerle.
Nick Symes – TSI Global Trainer
Nick spent 27 years in teaching, 10 of those as a Deputy Headteacher in a large and thriving comprehensive before setting up his own very successful education consultancy. An accomplished and adaptable trainer and facilitator, Nick specialises in building partnerships, designing and delivering training programmes.
Robert Price – TSI Global Trainer
Robert has over twenty years experience working with urban schools, school districts, foundations, universities and non-profit organizations. He focuses particularly on improving interpersonal communication; establishing sound management practices; developing planning methods, and; implementing change throughout the organization. Robert believes there is no single recipe for creating a great school or organization. In his experience successful schools and organizations share many common traits. His collaboration applies these traits to achieving your vision.
Teresa Williams – TSI Global Trainer
Teresa is a former secondary Headteacher who maintained a career-long interest in both the creation of a relevant and enriching secondary curriculum and the development, for students, of transportable, personal skills. Teresa has considerable experience in school leadership development, team working and organisational change.
Roger Sutcliffe – TSI Global Trainer
Roger taught at both primary and secondary level for 20 years before becoming a founding member of SAPERE, the Philosophy for Children charity, and subsequently President of ICPIC, its international equivalent. One of P4C’s leading trainers, he believes strongly in developing caring and collaborative thinking in the classroom as well as critical and creative thinking. He has written extensively in the field of thinking skills, and has served on the editorial board of various journals, including ‘Teaching Thinking and Creativity’.
Martin Bell – TSI Global Trainer
Martin is Head of a large primary school in Cornwall, which he led to accreditation as a Thinking School in 2008. Originally a drama and active learning specialist, his passion is in supporting the development of Thinking Schools: a holistic approach to meaningful learning and ownership for every member of the community.
